Tooth Whitening

We can all appreciate a bright, white smile. Sometimes, however, over-the-counter tooth whitening products simply are not effective enough to restore our pearly whites. Whitening strips, toothpastes, and gels typically only impact the surface of the teeth, and can’t give you the results that you are looking for. These surface treatments simply aren’t sufficient to treat intrinsic stains that are to be found underneath the protective enamel layer of our teeth.

The solution is to consider a safe but extremely effective method of achieving those gleaming white results, and a refreshed smile. Patients can often leave treatment with beautiful teeth that are several shades whiter and brighter, with just a small time investment. With the right oral health care routine, and annual dental appointments, these teeth whitening results can last for many good years.

Causes of tooth staining

Tooth staining can be caused by any number of drinks and foods that you enjoy on a daily basis. Darker beverages that include coffee, teas, sodas, and red wine are notoriously bad for their ability to cause tooth surface stains. They can, over time, lead to a yellowed appearance on the teeth.

Many of our favorite foods can also contribute to teeth staining. Dark fruits like blueberries, as an example. While pomegranates, oranges, and even tomato sauces can be a healthy part of a varied diet, they can also be seen as teeth-staining culprits. You shouldn’t remove these nutrient-rich foods from your diet, but you should take note of their staining potential.

A lapse in good oral health care can also contribute to seeing stains on your teeth. Being sure brush and floss at least twice a day can help to remove staining beverages and foods from the surface of the teeth.

Even ensuring that you are drinking plenty of water can help to flush those staining drinks and foods from your mouth, while ensuring are hydrated and healthy.

Even with a steady routine of good oral health practices, and avoiding those teeth staining drinks and foods, you could still see discoloration on your teeth. Some medications and simply aging can lead to teeth looking less than pearly white.

Professional teeth whitening treatments can help to restore your teeth to that bright and white look.

  • The different is clear

There are any number of whitening products to be found over the counter, and online. Each of these products promise you that white and brighter gleaming smile. Most of them will however produce very disappointing results. This is because none of these over the counter solutions can compare to the positive results seen with a dentist supervised teeth whitening procedure.

Your dentist will be able to address your specific needs, based upon the current colour of your teeth, the shape of your teeth, and also take any sensitivity issues into consideration. Your dentist will also be able to consider any restorative work that has been done, so that the whitening procedure doesn’t damage any dental bridges or crowns.

  • Maintaining your beautiful smile

The maintenance of your beautiful healthy smile is quite often simply a matter of making good decisions, and a matter of keeping up with your good oral health routine. Your teeth should be brushed and flossed after each meal, and even snack. You should use a good quality mouth rinse, which can often be just as beneficial as brushing your teeth.

Be sure to also rinse your mouth out with water between meals, especially after you have consumed a food or drink that can potentially lead to staining on your teeth.

Be sure to ask your dentist about high quality tooth whitening toothpastes that can be used to maintain your radiant smile between your dental appointments.

You don’t need to live a life ashamed of the way that your teeth look. There are many great solutions that can help to restore your lackluster teeth to a brilliant smile that you are proud to show off at every opportunity. Remember that those store-bought solutions can’t get down to the deep stains within each of your teeth. Only your dentist and specialized tools and solutions can get you the results that you deserve.

Tooth Whitening

We offer a home tooth whitening solution where we will make personalised bleach trays for you to take home. A tiny amount of bleach is put into each tray and after wearing the tray for 3 to 4 hours each day for a few weeks, your teeth will gradually whiten.

When you have achieved the colour you like, you can stop or top up as often as you wish.

Ideally before bleaching your teeth you should have your teeth cleaned by our hygienist to ensure your teeth are clean before you start.

The effects of whitening would normally last for a few years but over time, you may wish to bleach every few months to maintain the colour.
