Six Month Smiles

Do you have misaligned teeth that are impacting many aspects of your day to day life? Traditional metal braces have long been the go-to solution for straightening teeth in adolescents and adults alike. A mouth full of visible metal worn potentially for endless months and even years is not always appealing for adults who are looking for a brand new smile, so many avoid looking into orthodontic solutions to help them.

Six Month Smiles is a revolutionary clear braces system, for adults. It has been created to help adults to get that winning straight smile in around just six months.

Six Month Smiles is a bracket and wire orthodontic solution that can be used to straighten the upper and lower front teeth, in around six months. It’s important to note that treatment times can vary, based upon the misalignment concerns of each individual patient.

Six Month Smiles braces use clear brackets and nickel-titanium wires that are tooth-coloured to help with discreet wear during treatment. They are great for treating minor misalignments, and are the better option for patients who want the cosmetic benefits that can come from using braces for teeth straightening, but who are not in need of more complicated bite corrects.

  • Who is the ideal candidate for Six Month Smiles?

When you meet with your dentist for your consultation, you’ll undergo a comprehensive examination to determine the health of your teeth and your gums. You may have x-rays taken, as well as photographs of your teeth. Impressions of your teeth will also be taken in order to create models.

The models and images taken will be used to calculate the movement that is needed to achieve the wanted straightening results on your front teeth. It will also help to determine where the tooth-colored wires and clear brackets should be placed in order to achieve optimal results.

  • Getting your braces fit

At your appointment to have your braces placed on your teeth, your dentist will affix the clear brackets to each of your teeth with the use of a bonding adhesive. The brackets will have been created to fit your unique upper and lower teeth, and will be ready to be positioned on your teeth without much fuss.

Once the bonding agent has been applied to both the brackets and your teeth, your dentist will place the custom-made tray over your teeth, and hold it in place. This will ensure the correct seating of each bracket. Once they have set, the tray will be removed.

The bonding adhesive will be hardened making use of a high-intensity light that will ensure the brackets are affixed securely. Your dentist will then attach to the brackets the tooth-coloured arch wires, and adjust them in order to promote the gradual movement that you are looking for.

  • Follow up appointments

After the first appointment for placement of your braces, you will need to follow up with appointments that are every four to five weeks. This is so that you can get the braces adjusted, and the arch wires tightened for that gradual movement of the teeth.

These appointments are quick, and you’ll be able to move on with your day once you’ve had the adjustment.

  • Caring for your braces

It’s important that you maintain a good oral hygiene routine, and take care to avoid some foods that are not ideal for consuming while you have braces in place. Failing to brush your teeth can potentially lead to cavities and other damage to your teeth.

A good quality mouth rinse should also be used in order to keep your teeth and your mouth as free from food debris as is possible.

It’s often suggested that sticky and hard foods be avoided, as they can potentially lead to detachment of your braces. Certain harder fruits, such as pears and apples, should be sliced into bite-sized pieces so that the potential for damage to the braces is minimized.

  • After care, with Six Month Smiles

When the braces are first placed, and then also after every adjustment, some patients do experience some tenderness for a few hours after the appointment. Over the counter pain medications can help to soothe any discomfort.

Be sure to keep up with your oral hygiene routine, and heed the instructions provided to you by your dentist. Once your treatment has been completed, and the braces have been removed from your teeth, you may need to wear a retainer for a few months in order to ensure your teeth do not relapse to their original positions.
