Dentures

If you are looking for dentures in Carlow, you have come to the right place.  The loss of one or more teeth can lead to a number of challenges for those who find themselves with those gaps in their smile. Patients may find that they struggle with speaking, eating, and also with a complete lack of confidence in their smile. The good news is that patients can put these concerns squarely behind them, with a set of comfortable and custom-fit dentures.

Dentures have a poor reputation at times, and they represent one of the most popular solutions to replacing missing teeth. Today’s dentures don’t really accurately represent the dentures of yesterday. Modern dentures offer a much more natural appearance, and are much more effective at giving you that natural look and feel. Patients leave with their new dentures, feeling a renewed sense of happiness, and of course have a beautiful smile to show off.

What exactly are dentures?

Conventional dentures are dental prosthetics that can be removed when needed. They are designed to seamlessly replace teeth that have been lost. Whether the teeth have been lost due to age, poor oral care, or due to injury, dentures can help to restore a smile as a minimally invasive solution.

The denture appliance itself includes a flesh-coloured base, with porcelain prosthetic teeth. Dentures will restore for patients the ability to speak correctly, eat and enjoy eating, and of course smile with renewed confidence.

The needs of each patient will differ, so it’s important that your dentist offer a thorough examination in order to determine which denture options will be the best solution to meet your specific needs.

There are a number of options available when it comes to dentures, and the one that you are fit with will be based upon your individual needs. Dentures are custom-made for every patient.

There is no one-size solution when it comes to dentures. A custom-made solution will ensure that your dentures fit you comfortably, while also ensuring that they give you the fully restored function that you are in need of.

Based on your needs, and the number of teeth that you are missing, your dentist may recommend a partial denture or a complete denture appliance.

  • Complete dentures

As the name would indicate, complete dentures replace every one of the teeth on your upper or lower jaw. Some patients need the replacement of just the upper row of teeth, while some may be in need of complete dentures to replace both the upper and the lower.

In cases where the patient may still have some remaining teeth, those teeth will need to be extracted before the denture is put in place. It’s important to note that there may be some time needed between the extraction and fitting the dentures, as your gums will need to be completely healed in order to ensure a proper fit for your dentures.

  • Partial Dentures

While complete dentures are a great solution for patients who are missing a significant number of their teeth, partial dentures are a good solution for patients are are missing just a few of their teeth in a row.

The partial denture appliance will fill in those gaps left behind by missing teeth, while ensuring that the remaining healthy teeth stay in place. Partial dentures, unlike fixed dental bridges, can be removed when needed.

Partial dentures are very much like the complete denture in that they quite often have a flesh-toned base, or a metal framework, to provide support to the prosthetic teeth. The colour of the teeth on the partial denture can be matched to the colour of your natural teeth.

    Implant-supported denture solution

Another denture option is to make use of dental implants with your custom-fit dentures. This can offer the patient ultra-stable and secure dentures that won’t shift around while talking, or eating. Implant-supported dentures are a great way to get a mouth full of beautiful and natural-looking teeth.

  • Implant-Supported Dentures

Another denture option is to make use of dental implants with your custom-fit dentures. This can offer the patient ultra-stable and secure dentures that won’t shift around while talking, or eating. Implant-supported dentures are a great way to get a mouth full of beautiful and natural-looking teeth.

There is also an option where 4 implants will hold a permanent denture in place, giving you a full arch replacement.

  • Adjusting to life with dentures

There can sometimes be a bit of adjustment to life with dentures, especially for patients who have been living a life without teeth for a good long while. The dental appliance can feel weighty and bulky, and there can be a change in the way that you speak or eat. These are minor and short-lived changes, and in almost no time at all you’ll acclimate to wearing dentures.

With regular wear, you’ll adjust to life with your dentures.

  • Is it painful getting Dentures

There should be no discomfort or pain felt when custom-made dentures are in place. Any discomfort felt should be reported to your dentist right away, so that a solution can be found.

Dentures will improve your self-confidence, and of course help to improve your overall quality of life.

Taking Care of your dentures

Taking care of your custom-made dentures is just as important as it is to take care of your natural teeth. Even a full denture requires routine cleaning, in order to ensure that it lasts for many good years to come.

Removable dentures should be rinsed of any food debris after every meal, and they should be brushed in order to remove additional particles and any accumulated plaque. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush for cleaning your dentures, and also use a soft-bristled toothbrush to clean your gum, cheeks, and tongue to help keep your mouth healthy. They should be removed every night and stored in water.

When you are ready to once again wear your dentures, simply rinse them clean and enjoy your new refreshed smile.
